Our History

Back in 1988, when printing from your PC was still a new-fangled technology, Adelaide man Bryan Stokes saw an ad in the South Australian Advertiser that read, “Make $75 every 15 minutes refilling laser printer cartridges”. He decided to give it a go. And so the Australian Cartridge Company was founded.

Four years later the name was changed to Cartridge World and Bryan and his partner Paul Wheeler turned it into a franchise operation. In 1997 the first Cartridge World franchise was sold. The second, third and fourth followed in rapid succession.

In 2000 the first international Master Franchisee was established right here in New Zealand. We’d arrived!

Time to take over the world. In 2001, the first United Kingdom Cartridge World franchise opened in Harrogate. A couple of years later the United States followed. The number of franchises in the US grew rapidly over the next year, churning out roughly one store per day.

In 2005, the company celebrated a great milestone, the opening of the 1000th Cartridge World store in Atlanta, Georgia.

A couple of years later an Australian private equity firm, Wolseley Private Equity, took ownership. Then in 2015 Suzhou Goldengreen Technologies Ltd (SGT) purchased the group globally. Now definitely one of the big boys in the world of printing products, Cartridge World headquarters are located in Hong Kong.

Over the years, the network of Cartridge World branches has continued to develop and grow. Our stores have been duplicated in more than 1,450 places worldwide, making us one of the world’s fastest growing franchises.

We use only the best quality imaging supplies and guarantees that cartridges supplied by our company will perform as well as Manufacturers Original equipment under similar conditions.

Our toners and inks are sourced from top suppliers and are each uniquely formulated for the many different cartridges available. Our extensive range of testing equipment is further assurance of our commitment to quality control and customer satisfaction.

Worn parts are replaced if necessary so that our cartridges produce sharp black text, vibrant colours, and clear graphics.

If you are dissatisfied with the results of any of our cartridges, please return the cartridge within 60 days of purchase together with proof of purchase to the Cartridge World store where purchased. The store will either repair or replace the faulty cartridge, credit the full amount against a new cartridge, or provide a full refund in exchange for the faulty cartridge.

In the unlikely event of a claim that a cartridge refilled by Cartridge World caused damage to the printing mechanism of your equipment, please contact your Cartridge World store with proof of purchase. They will provide advice or a qualified service technician to address any issues - at no cost to you.

This warranty is in addition to and does not affect your statutory rights under local legislation.
